From time to time, we all stop to ponder the big picture and wonder: Why are we here? Bloggers are no exception. Among the 9 zillion blogs out there, my own favorites are those that are genuinely useful — they may save me time, save me money, help me do my job better, offer a few words of inspiration, or maybe even help me be a better parent. They offer something unique that I can take away and use to improve my overall well-being. In short, they have a genuine purpose and aren’t just mindless chatter (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
As a graphic design studio with decades of experience in the publishing industry and a heavy emphasis on magazine design, layout and issue production, we thought it was high time to give back to the blogosphere and contribute some of our own knowledge to magazine publishers — startups and veterans alike — who may be in need of a little guidance. We get calls almost every day from publishers across the country looking for direction on how to make their magazines more appealing, more readable, more marketable and, ultimately, more successful. With the magazine industry facing significant changes in recent years, knowledge is power, and expertise is crucial to a publication’s success — and we hope to share some helpful bits of wisdom here for magazine publishers to capitalize on.
